Years of Experience with Children
Who Am I?
I have always had a passion for children, even when I was a child. I did not, however, ever think or dream that I would be a home care provider. I am the oldest of 4 with an almost 7 year gap between myself and my brother and 9.5 years between myself and my sisters.
I babysat them, as well as other children while I was a teenager. I knew I had to do something with children. My senior year in high school all the colleges and universities came to the school. I knew I found the school for me. Institute for Human Services Education (now known as Jane Norman College) was exactly where I needed to be. All of their courses focused on working with children and youth. I knew this was exactly what I needed to get where I wanted to go.
I started at IHSE in September 2004. In May 2006, I graduated with my Early Childhood Education diploma. Right after that, I went back to IHSE and got my Special Education certificate in May 2007. While doing all of this, I decided that I wanted to go into social work. I then decided to go to Cape Breton University and get my Bachelor of Arts - Community Studies degree. While attending CBU in my second year, I met my boyfriend. I had my oldest son, Robert James, on April 29, 2010.
After trying to go back to work after he was born, I realized I couldn't handle it. It killed me not knowing how he was, if he was behaving, or if he was being treated right. In March 2012, I decided to start doing childcare from home. I could be home with my boy and I could still provide for our family.
On April 10, 2013, we welcomed our second son, Maurice Lawrence, into our family. When Reece was 10 days old, I had children back in my home caring for them. I knew that I was meant to do this. I didn't have to worry for one second if he was okay. I knew exactly what was happening!
Now we are here, over 5 years later, and I couldn't imagine doing anything else. I love all the little ones that come into my home and cannot wait to watch them grow and see where the world takes them!
